Tirupati: SV Medical College Principal Dr G Ravi Prabhu has said that for every 40 seconds one suicide has been taking place in the world and the number of persons who make an attempt for suicide but could not succeed was 20 times more than this.

He spoke at a rally organised by SV Medical College and Ruia Hospital on the occasion of World suicide Prevention Day here on Monday. Dr Ravi Prabhu said everyone should think of their mothers when they get the thought of committing suicides as they carried them for nine months and experienced all pains during delivery.

Instead of looking at the problems in a magnifying glass such persons should first sit and write down on a paper what can they achieve by living without committing suicide. When anyone gets the thoughts of suicides, they should share them with their near and dear, parents and teachers who should take them to psychologists immediately by which their lives can be saved.

They should make the persons with suicidal thoughts to listen good music, movies which strongly advocates human relations and affections and enlighten them that anything can be achieved only when they are alive.

The Head of Psychiatry department of Dr Nageswar Rao said that feeling of being deceived in the hands of whom they believe, love failures, death of close friends or relatives or family persons, getting separated from such close persons, failure in examinations, death of favourite heroes etc., induces the tendency of suicidal thoughts from which they could not come out until proper counselling was made.

Ruia Hospital Superintendent Dr B Sidha Naik, Dr Nehru, Dr Janardhan Raju, Dr U Srihari, Dr Ramya Keerthi, Dr Ram Mohan, Dr Faheem and others took part in the rally.
