Vijayawada: Plaster of Paris idols will harm the environment by polluting water and to save the environment one should use the clay idols, said Vijayawada Roundtable 68 chairman Ritesh Poddar and Vijayawada Ladies Circle 52 chairperson Sindhura Nekkanti.

They sold clay Ganesh idols to create awareness among the public to safeguard environment here on Tuesday.

Speaking on this occasion, GO-Green convener Chaitanya Chinnam said that they had started awareness programmes with the aim of 100 percent pollution-free festival with ‘GO Green Ganesha’.

He further said they were also distributing clay idol, coconut pot, Meti Milk and coriander seed packets for the use of public to avoid the chemical and POP based Idols for the upcoming Vinayaka Chaviti.

He said that the fund collected by the sales of all of these clay idols and the other articles, would be used for the construction of the school buildings and for the education of poor students, he added.

Roundtable conveners Prasanth Grandhi, Prapul Kakumanu, Vinay Chennupati, Kalyan Telaprolu, Dr Santhi Kakumanu and Dheeraj and others were present.
