Officials told to speed up greenery project in capital

Vijayawada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu asked the officials of Amaravati Development Corporation Ltd (ADCL) to ensure that the Amaravati Green Development Project (ADGP) would reach a major milestone by the end of January 2019 as the capital city construction was set to reach a significant stage by December 2018.
During a teleconference with the officials here on Sunday, the Chief Minister asked the ADCL to keenly focus on greenery project in Amaravati on par with civil works such as roads and submit a plan of action for the next six months.
He said the greenery project aims to create an ecologically balanced environment in the capital city development. The Chief Minister reviewed the status of green network and other projects such as Sakhamuru Park, Ananthavaram Park and Malkapuram Park.
He said that as part of efforts to create one of the best world-class capital cities, the State government was giving top priority for development of greenery in 30 per cent (15,990 acres) of the total area of Amaravati.
ADCL chairperson Lakshmi Pardhasaradhi briefed the Chief Minister on the progress of greenery development project works. She said it was proposed to take up a green buffer in 15 metres from the edge of one side of the road.
“Of the total 34 roads planned in the capital region area at a stretch of 321.7 km, 23 roads with 133.3 km length will have green buffer. So far 17 roads with 74.45 km avenue plantations were taken up and completed for a length of 55 km.
The remaining plantation work will be taken up by Urban Greenery and Forest wing of ADCL after completion of civil works,” she said. Minister for Municipal Administration Dr P Narayana told the officials that the greenery project gives a big push to tourism infrastructure in capital city and should transform Amaravati into a Nandanavanam. Principal Secretary (Energy) Ajay Jain, CRDA Commissioner Ch Sridhar and other senior officials were present.
