Kadapa: Tension prevailed at SN Colony in Rayachoti town in Kadapa district on Monday as the municipal authorities demolished as many as 50 business establishments which were allegedly constructed on the government land. According to the official sources, a few years ago, some people have encroached government land in SN Colony and constructed structures. They gave them to different traders on rental basis.

Meanwhile following a complaint from a local man, Human Rights Commission recently directed the Collector to intervene into the issue. In this connection, Collector CH.Harikiran asked Rayachoti Municipal Commissioner to submit a detail report.

The municipal authorities have replied that there was already High Court verdict which was delivered in 2003 against the traders. But the court orders were not implemented due to various reasons.

However, on Monday morning following orders of Collector CH.Harikiran, Rayachoti Municipal officials, accompanied by local police, removed the illegal structures.

When contacted by Hans India, Municipal Commissioner S Srinivasulu Reddy said that the municipal administration had already issued notices to the traders asking them to vacate the government land, but the traders did not obey the orders. So, the illegal shops are removed now.
