The new Rolls-Royce Dawn convertible will make its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, for the first time in Rolls-Royce Motor Cars’ history, a new model will be as well launched globally online. The luxury carmaker has given potential customers a taste of what they can expect.

Three teaser images have been released, with one showing the Dawn’s ‘suicide’ door with mirror, along with a glimpse of the alloy wheel design. The other two images spruik the Dawn’s top-shelf interior. One shows a “Hand built in Goodwood, England” badge and the other displays a section of the Dawn’s woodgrain dash and a classy analogue clock.

The Dawn is based on the Rolls-Royce Wraith, and will likely feature the same 6.6 litre twin-turbocharged V12 petrol engine producing 465kW and 800Nm, matched with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Rather than use the ‘Wraith Drophead’ name, as with the larger Phantom Drophead convertible, Rolls decided instead to revive the Dawn badge for the first time since the mid-1950s.

The name’s first appearance in the Rolls-Royce line came in 1949 with the Silver Dawn saloon, followed by an extremely limited run of just 28 Dawn Dropheads between 1950 and 1954.

“Our new Rolls-Royce Dawn promises a striking, seductive encounter like no other Rolls-Royce to date,” brand chief Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes said upon announcing the Dawn’s revival in May.

“Dawn is a beautiful new open-top motor car with a name that suggests the fresh opportunities that every new day holds - an awakening, an opening up of one’s senses and a burst of sunshine,” stated the company in a release.
