Piaggio starts Aprilia SR 150 production in India
The Aprilia SR 150 which made its India debut at the 2016 Auto Expo has just begun production in India. The ‘motard’ as Aprilia like to call it will share the 150cc engine from the Vespa, which is already being produced locally.

Aprilia is marketing the SR 150 in India as a scooter meant for young riders who wish to experience a sporty scooter. Powering the SR 150 is a 150cc four-stroke single-cylinder engine.
This engine, as seen on the Vespa, produces 11.4bhp and 11.5Nm of torque through a CVT transmission. Braking is taken care of by a 220mm disc at the front and a 140mm drum unit in the rear.
The design on the scooter is largely similar to its international stablemate, the SR 125. The sharp cut body lines, sporty riding position, beaky front end, 14-inch alloy wheels and sporty stance clearly showcase its sporty character.
The sporty scooter is being manufactured at Piaggio’s massive facility at Baramati, Maharashtra. Aprilia is expected to begin exporting this motard internationally soon after the first Indian deliveries. Similar to its international stablemate, the SR 125 it is expected to be sold globally.
The Aprilia SR 150 will be the first scooter of its kind in the Indian market. The only other 150cc scooters in India are offered by Aprilia’s sister brand, Vespa. However, the Vespa scooters attract a different set of audience than the SR 150. In terms of pricing, it is expected to be priced between Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.5 lakh.
