CS Santosh – the man who made the country proud by finishing the Dakar in his very first attempt at the start of 2015 – is on his way to the world's most gruelling race for the third time, and on this occasion, it is with an Indian bikemaker: Hero MotoCorp.
Hero has tied up with German rally specialists Speedbrain GmbH, a firm that has worked with BMW Motorrad and Honda Racing Corporation in the past, to form Hero MotoSports Team Rally. It is a strategic association, so CS and his rookie teammate Joaquim Rodrigues will be riding the Speedbrain 450, a bike CS will be sampling for the first time this weekend.
Wolfgang Fischer, Managing Director at Speedbrain, is spearheading the team, and has, in the past, worked with ace riders such as Joan Barreda Bort and Paulo Goncalves. He is, in CS's words, "the best team manager in the world." It's a formidable partnership, this.
Team Hero MotoSports's first outing will be at the Merzouga rally, in Morocco, later this month, and it will participate in select rallies leading up to the big one: Dakar 2017.
