Public sector lender Corporation Bank appointed Jai Kumar Garg as its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. He succeeded S R Bansal, who superannuated from services as the bank’s Chairman and Managing Director on January 31. Garg took charge earlier this month and will hold the post of MD and CEO for three years.

Public sector lender Corporation Bank appointed Jai Kumar Garg as its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. He succeeded S R Bansal, who superannuated from services as the bank’s Chairman and Managing Director on January 31. Garg took charge earlier this month and will hold the post of MD and CEO for three years.

The 55-year-old Garg, a Chartered Accountant and an Associate Member of the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance (IIBF), was earlier functioning as Executive Director of United Commercial Bank (UCO Bank). He served in that position from August 5, 2013 to January 31, 2016.

Garg entered banking sector in 1986, joining Corporation Bank and worked in various capacities at major centres across the country. Garg served at various branches of the bank, including industrial finance branches at Mumbai, New Delhi and Pune. He also served in various zonal offices in Ahmedabad, New Delhi, Pune and Kolkata and headed Kolkata and Delhi circles of the bank. Garg has experience in credit management, recovery, forex operations, retail banking and administration, among others.

He had undergone many training programmes at institutes such as NIBM (Pune), BTC (Mumbai) and ISB (Hyderabad). He has also travelled abroad for training programmes in Germany, Italy, France, Thailand and Vietnam.
