Six more held for attack on VH

The Alipiri police on Monday arrested six more persons for their alleged role in the attack on Rajya Sabha member V Hanumantha Rao. They were produced before the additional district judge. Cases under seven sections of IPC (147, 149, 332, 341, 353, 355 and 427) were registered against them.

Tirupati: The Alipiri police on Monday arrested six more persons for their alleged role in the attack on Rajya Sabha member V Hanumantha Rao. They were produced before the additional district judge. Cases under seven sections of IPC (147, 149, 332, 341, 353, 355 and 427) were registered against them.

Alipiri police inspector Rajasekhar said that all the six were involved in the attack on VHR that took place on August 17 at Alipiri. Three persons were arrested the very next day and produced before the court. Following investigations, the six – T Venkateswarulu, Seshadri Naidu, Ranjith Kumar, Mohammad Rafi, R Siva Kumar and Sindhuja were taken into custody and sent to judicial remand, he said.

Meanwhile, hundreds of students staged dharna in front of the police station in the morning demanding the release of the six persons and unconditional withdrawal of the cases booked against them. They alleged that the police arrested them to dilute the ongoing agitation.
