Laddu auctioned for Rs 2.70 lakh

Tirupati: An eco-friendly idol of Lord Ganesh was dissolved by firemen right at the spot where it was installed in Tummalagunta Venkateswara Swamy temple here on Sunday through watering. Instead of the usual practice of taking the idol to Vinayaka Sagar for immersion, the YSRCP leader Dr Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy requested the Fire Department to perform the immersion process right at the temple.

Since the 25-foot idol was made purely of clay using soluble elements, the entire process was completed in just two hours. The Vinayaka laddu, weighing 1,116 kg, sold for Rs. 2.70 lakh at an auction that followed. The YSRCP leader Dr Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy had installed the idol at his cost, while two Muslim brethren had offered the 1116 kg laddu free of cost.

Four bidders – K Prabhakar Reddy, Jeevarthanam, RK Choudhary and N Chandhramohan Reddy – obtained it for Rs. 2.70 lakh collectively. Last year the laddu was sold for Rs. 2.50 lakh in auction.
