The controversial 'love jihad' campaign is back with a Ghar Wapasi touch. The mouthpiece of Durga Vahini, the young women's wing of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), has now launched a campaign to reconvert Hindu women married to Muslim men, saying that the Ghar Wapasi campaign must also include 'love jihad'.

The cover of the latest edition of Himalay Dhwani, published by Durga Vahini, features actor Kareena Kapoor with her morphed face half covered with a naqab (veil). The caption below the photo says: Dharmaantaran se Rashtraantaran (Conversion of nationality by religious conversion). Kareena had a registered marriage with actor Saif Ali Khan on October 16, 2012 after five years of courtship.
When asked why Kareena was chosen for the cover, Durga Vahini's northern India regional coordinator Rajni Thukral told the Hindustan Times , "She is a celebrity. The youth try to emulate celebrities. They think if she can do so, why not us?"
"Sixteen Hindu women who married Muslim men posing as Hindus have approached us for ghar wapasi. We have already reconverted two. One has also been remarried," Thukral said.
"There has been much debate on love jihad and conversions. The nation was divided and Pakistan was created because of conversions. If a girl gets caught in Love Jihad and becomes Muslim by mistake and now wants to return to her original faith, isn't it her right? It's strange that some parties claiming to be secular call this conversion," Thukral wrote in the editorial of her magazine.
"It's ridiculous and not surprising... but these uneducated and bigoted ideas are the worst of India and condemning them is important," Saif Ali Khan told HT.
The women within the VHP stay in Durga Vahini from the age of 15 to 35 years where they are taught military-style combat and a Hindutva version of history. They later join the VHP's women's wing, Matr Shakti.
