Superstar Rajinikanth-starrer ‘Kabali’, which is carrying massive expectations, has run into release woes once again. Although not announced officially, the film was supposed to open in cinemas early July but was deferred to July 15. But, we hear that it might not make it on July 15. Wonder why? Well, the producer Kalaippuli S Thanu is not budging on the price he wants in some prime overseas areas.

“Keeping in view the enormous buzz the film has generated, the producer has quoted a big sum for key overseas markets like Australia. The interested parties are not willing to meet the producers’ demands. The deadlock may continue,” said sources.

Well, this is not the first instance the producer didn’t budge on compromising on the price. His earlier film ‘Theri’ failed to release in important areas of Tamil Nadu after he failed to get a price he wanted from the distributors. It’s another story that the film has still managed to break even and become a top grosser.

Sources also point out that there’s some patch work left and Rajini’s requirement is needed. “Rajinikanth was supposed to be back in Chennai from the US in July first week but his arrival seems to be uncertain as of now. This might cause further delay and the film may now release on July 22.”

While Thanu’s son Paranthaman remained unavailable for a comment, Praveen, who acquired the Telugu rights, said that he will be announcing the Telugu release date only after the film completes its censor formalities.

“After the certification process, which is scheduled on July 2 in Chennai, Thanu will share the release date with me. In Tamil, one should not announce the release date prior to certification. The film being postponed is just a rumour.”
