It seems that Rajnikanth’s charisma remains unblemished despite his last few films like “Lingaa” and ‘Kabali’ tanking at the box-office. Unmindful of his bad run, leading Telugu producers, distributors and exhibitors are making a beeline to procure the dubbing rights of his next film `Robot 2.0’ which is slated for release in May.

Realising that Telugu rights of `Kabali’ were sold for whopping for Rs 36 crore, Tamil production house Lyca Productions is reportedly demanding almost `double’ that amount of Rs 60 to 70 crore for Robot 2. “Rajnikanth’s sequel Robot 2 has triggered a lot of buzz and viewers are awaiting the release of the magnum opus.

In fact, Rajni and director Shankar have become an house-hold name among Telugu viewers and B-town star Akshay’s negative role has catapulted the commercial prospects of the film to the next level, so its bound to be sold for a fancy price,” says distributor Ramakrishna of Chittoor.

Leading producer Chadalawada Srininivas who minted crores with two dubbed films “Bichagadu” and ’16’, is now in the race to bag Robot 2.0 since he believes that Rajni’s charima is unblemished and ready to dole out Rs 45 to 50 crore and another producer Shobha along with other top exhibitors and distributors are giving him a stiff fight.

“Even Rs 45 crore will be highest price ever paid for a Tamil dubbed film, but if it crosses Rs 60 crore mark then it is bound to by risky and few could back out,” says another distributor Nagi Reddy of Nellore. However, Nizam distributor Srinivas feels that the heady combination of superstars of Rajnikanth-Akshay Kumar is bound to spell magic.

“Nizam region has mixed crowd of Hindi and Telugu film viewers, so it will be safe bet since its first time superstars of south and north are sharing screen space and bound to draw unprecedented openings,” he adds.

With the film being made with a budget of Rs 200 crore, will it surpass the business of “Bahubali 2,” “We shouldn’t compare Robot 2 and Bahubali since they are two different genres, but coming to popularity and business figures, Bahubali 2 is way ahead of its Rajni’s movie,” says producer Prakash Reddy.
