Army jawans involved in sex crimes

3 molestation cases were foiled by passers-by

In the past three months, the city witnessed three incidents where Army jawans tried to molest women. There was something common in all the three incidents. All these were attempted in the secluded and bushy Cantonment area. In all the three attempts, the jawans were in an inebriated state. It should be noted that two of the three incidents happened in the Bowenpally area. Of the three incidents, two molestation attempts were on minors.

Incident 1: On December 31, a 25-year-old woman was invited to cook for a party hosted by a jawan named Om Prakash at Bowenpally. Om Prakash picked up the woman at Lal Bazaar on his scooter and after passing the Bowenpally check post he asked her to get down and attempted to molest her. The woman cried and shouted, which alerted the locals. Om Prakash fled from the scene but was nabbed by the police on January 1.

Incident 2: On November 3, a 17-year-old girl and her friend went to Saibaba Temple, Mahendra Hills. While they were returning, they were stopped by three jawans at the AOC, 2nd battalion, near Tukaram Gate. They beat up the girl’s friend and tried to molest the girl. But fellow passers-by came to the rescue and foiled the bid.

Incident 3: On October 5, a brother and sister studying at KV Bowenpally, were travelling towards Padma Colony in Chintal. They were stopped by a jawan in his late twenties at 10th battalion and attempted to rape the girl. The brother yelled, which alerted the passers-by and the molestation bid was foiled.
