Hyderabad: In a joint operation carried out by the Vijayanagaram rural police and the officials of Election Commission, 28kg silver which has been illegally conveyed from Visakhapatnam to Vijayanagaram was seized. The said silver has been seized near the Y Junction in Vijayanagaram. The entire silver was found in the form of fetters worn traditionally by women on their feet. So, the officials suspect that the seized silver ornaments were intended for the distribution among women voters to lure them in view of the scary elections. Also, there was no valid document held with the accused in support to their version. The police have detained two merchants in this regard and have been interrogating them.

From the other end, Banawar Lal, the Chief Election Commissioner of Andhra Pradesh on Sunday said that by now Rs 125.31cr has been seized from various sources. Also, 74.2kg gold, 708kg silver has been seized, apart from seizing 4.57L lts liquor. He ordered the concerned authorities to intensify their checking as there was a possibility that more methods of transportation of money, liquor and gold will be opted in view of the looming elections.
