Betting With High Stakes as Poll Surveys Differ. The state is abuzz with betting on the poll prospects of certain key contenders as well as the principal political parties.

Fortunes of YSRCP, TDP vary in different channels

“I am confident that the YSRCP will form government in Seemandhra and my stake on this is Rs 5 lakh. I will lose this money if TDP-BJP comes to power,” Anil Chowdary, a businessman from Gudivada

Hyderabad: The state is abuzz with betting on the poll prospects of certain key contenders as well as the principal political parties. It is more so in Seemandhra region where the poll surveys organised by different national and state-level organisations added sufficiently to the curiosity of the common elector. As the exit poll predictions of different agencies vary, the people involved in betting have started relying on scribes, analysts and even senior politicians for guidance.

Anil Chowdary, a businessman in Gudivada, said that it was very difficult to assess the situation in Seemandhra and the predictions made by analysts were differing on various counts. “I am confident that the YSRCP will form government in Seemandhra and my stake on this is Rs 5 lakh. I will lose this money if TDP-BJP comes to power,” he said, adding that he never lost money in political betting.

The question was about the rate of accuracy in the predictions made by the surveys. Some surveys had given a rosy picture to the TDP. Some surveys differed on this, said D Sankar, a political analyst.

Speaking to The Hans India, Gudivada YSRCP candidate Kodali Venkateswara Rao aka Nani said that some people were seeking poll analysis of Seemandhra from him. He said he was against this practice and discouraged his people on betting.

Interestingly, certain people changed their minds after Lagadapati Rajagopal announced his poll survey and started betting on the TDP-BJP combine. Bhadra Reddy, a travel agent from Hyderabad, played with stakes ranging up to RS 12 lakh on the winning prospects of the TDP after Lagadapati survey predicted a facile win for the TDP.

A Telugu news channel, which used to conduct exit polls, made a survey but it decided not to air it. The channel, reportedly predicted 102 seats to YSRCP and 73 seats to TDP-BJP combine. Haribabu from Ongole said that certain persons obtained the survey report before playing high stakes on the winning chances of the YSRCP.

M Venu, who believes that Kodali Nani, YSRCP candidate from Gudivada would win, said that he studied the poll predictions of NDTV, CNN-IBN, ABN-Star and Chanakya Today out of interest.

He said that some people were seeking his feedback before betting on the winning chances of political parties.
