Hyderabad: A businessman was critically injured on Sunday night when unidentified men attacked him in an attempt to loot the cash from him under Mailardevpally police station limits, police said on Monday.

“A two-member gang attacked the businessman Devdas Goud, a resident of Dwarka Nagar, who is into liquor business in Mailardevpally area. On Sunday night, around 11 pm, after closing the shop, he took the cash bag containing Rs 4 lakh. He was heading towards his house on his bike when the motorcycle-borne gang waylaid him as soon as he reached Dwarka Nagar Kaman and tried to snatch the cash bag. Devdas resisted, to which the gang members ruthlessly started hitting him on the head with blows and sticks however, he managed to reach home on his bike,” Mailardevpally sub-inspector P Laxmikanth Reddy said.

Sensing trouble, the miscreants who followed the businessman to his house, slinked from the place when the neighbours gathered and started chasing them.

Family members shifted Devdas to a nearby hospital and lodged a complaint with the Mailardevpally police station on Monday.

Based on the complaint, police registered a case and launched a manhunt to nab the culprits.
