Visakhapatnam: The city police on Saturday arrested all the accused in the gang rape of a 23-yer-old woman here on Friday night. The woman, who hails from Hyderabad, went to Visakhapatnam to attend a marriage. The arrested were identified as Nakka Yerendra Rao alias Kiran (28), his brother Nakka Sunil Kumar (25), his friend Daliboina Shiva (26) and Ramu. Ramu was not charged with rape and his role was being investigated, the police said. Deputy Commissioner of police C M Trivikram Varma said the woman, who worked in a call centre in Hyderabad, arrived here on March 4 to attend a marriage of her friend’s sister at Pendurthy.
After marriage function, she returned to Ramngagar area in the city accompanied by her friend Srinivas. But she could not be accommodated in the house of Srinivas as several relatives of him arrived there. She moved to another friend’s house at Ramnagar area.
The DCP said on Thursday night the woman and her friends had “liquor party” on a road close to a community hall when a police vehicle patrolling the area arrived. The men at the party fled, leaving the woman alone on the road. Nakka Sunil, who operates a taxi, and his friend Sanivada Ramu accosted her. They offered to drop her at home in the taxi. After the woman boarded the car, Sunil called up his elder brother Naka Yerendera from her cell phone.
Yerendra arrived along with his friend Shiva and shifted the girl into an Innova car and drove her to a remote place at Ramnagar area where all the three gang-raped her. After committing the crime, the trio dropped her at the Railway Station at around 3 am on Friday and asked her to board a train immediately to Vijayawada. The woman called up her friend Srinivas who took back to his home.
The woman narrated her harrowing experience to Srinivas. Srinivas and his friends drew up a plan to trap the accused and hand them over to the police, the DCP said. She called up one of the accused Shiva as his number was fed into her handset and she pretended to seek his help. When Shiva arrived at the railway station as was asked by her, Srinivas and his friends overpowered him and turned him over to police at ll-Town police station.
Based on the confession of Shiva, the police arrested the other two accused on Friday night itself, the DCP said. The accused were charged under Sections 366 and 376 (D) of IPC. The victim was sent to KG hospital for medical tests and later sent to Vijayawada.
