City Police Commissioner’s Task Force, west zone and central zone police teams, on Tuesday busted the gang allegedly diverting the essential commodities meant for Public Distribution System (PDS) to open market.

Hyderabad: City Police Commissioner’s Task Force, west zone and central zone police teams, on Tuesday busted the gang allegedly diverting the essential commodities meant for Public Distribution System (PDS) to open market.

The police teams, backed by the officials of the Civil Supplies Department, conducted raids on warehouses under limits of Mangalhat, Tappachabutra, Kattedan, Mailardevpally and Maheshwaram police station. According to police, the search parties had held 11 persons on the charge of procuring rice, wheat and kerosene meant for PDS and selling them in open at higher price.

The police seized 560 quintals of rice, 480 quintals of wheat, 1,780 litters of kerosene, all meant for PDS, and a DCM vehicle too from the possession of the arrested persons.

The accused were identified as Mohd Jameel, 34, of Mangalhat, Mohd Jilani, 30, Aguri Sandeep Kumar, 28, Durga Nagar Colony, Bandlaguda Kalsa, Katedan, D Shashikanth, 48, of Mailardevpally under Rajendra Nagar, Amith Kumar Chowdary, 36, of Saleem Nagar, Malakpet, R Krishna, 27, of Kishanbagh, Md Ismail Khan @ Shaheen, 40, of Syed Aliguda,

Arab Galli, Murad Nagar, Asif Nagar, Mohd Anwar, 45, Asif Nagar, Munnanur Omkar, 28, of Porandla village under Maheshwaram mandal of RR district, Boya Ravikumar, 30, of Munagala village under Itikyala mandal of Mahbubnagar district, Guvva Raju, 24, of Munagala village Police claimed that investigation had revealed that the arrested persons had been procuring rice,

wheat and kerosene, meant for PDS, from beneficiaries, local merchants, rice brokers, Fair Price Shopkeepers. The accused had been buying rice at Rs 6 a kg, wheat Rs 15 a kg and kerosene at Rs 28 a litre and transport them to Shadnagar, Mahbubnagar and Zaheerabad areas. They had been thus making huge profit, the police said.
