The culprits fled with booty of gold chains weighing 15 tolas, according to police. In the early hours of Friday, two bike-borne offenders snatched gold chain from a housewife Kamala Rani (50) when she was sleeping in front of her house at Eswari Bai Colony under Chilakalaguda police station limits.

In another incident at Warasiguda, two youths on motorcycle stopped in front of house and asked a woman, who was sweeping, for some address and before she reacted, they snatched the chain and fled from the scene. On receiving information, North Zone DCP N Prakash Reddy inspected the spot.

It may be recalled that, two chain snatchings were reported on Thursday, one at Dabeerpura and another at Jawahar Nagar. At Dabeerpura, two motorcycle-borne youths snatched a gold chain, weighing three tolas from a private schoolteacher Rani (29). On verification of CC Camera footage, the police identified the suspect and launched a manhunt.

Another chain snatching incident was reported from Jawahar Nagar where Annapurna, a housewife, had her chain robbed by two bike-borne offenders. The police suspect that the latest incidents of chain-snatching were the work of new gangs because most of the culprits in the city were arrested under Preventive Detention Act.
