Hyderabad: Cyberabad Cyber Crime Police on Saturday arrested a 19-year-old youth from a remote village in Odisha for hacking a toll-free number of a Hyderabad-based multi-national company. The youth, identified as Himalaya Mohanty, who is pursuing ITI, made calls totalling Rs 60 lakh through the hacked toll-free number, the police said.

What is surprising is that the teenager, who hails from a remote village under Balasore district in Odisha State, cannot speak English fluently. He extracted information on hacking from websites and managed to translate the details into Odia through Google translation tool. He turned the information into ammunition to hack the toll-free number, the police said.

Mohanty had connected the the toll-free line code to an EPABX Lloyd Electricals and Engineering Ltd. He then started speaking to thousands of persons across the country by using the code and made calls by routing them through the Llyod’s toll-free number. It led to the company receiving mobile bill of Rs 60 lakh.

The accused used a proxy server and pretended to be using the mobile phone. However, inspector Md Riyazuddin traced the location of hacker to a remote village in Odisha. The police team went to Shibapura village and apprehended Mohanty. The sleuths were shocked to learn that the accused is just a teenager.
