3 held for kidnapping youth; 4.5L seized
The Bhimavaram police nabbed three persons, who kidnapped a youth and seized Rs 4.5 lakh. According to police, Chinta Chandrasekhar alias Chandu, Thota Swaminayudu and Kopparthi Nagaraju are into cricket betting. Of the trio, Chandu owes Rs 25,000 to one Kathari Satya Siva Krishna Varma (20), who runs betting in the town.
Eluru: The Bhimavaram police nabbed three persons, who kidnapped a youth and seized Rs 4.5 lakh. According to police, Chinta Chandrasekhar alias Chandu, Thota Swaminayudu and Kopparthi Nagaraju are into cricket betting. Of the trio, Chandu owes Rs 25,000 to one Kathari Satya Siva Krishna Varma (20), who runs betting in the town.
When Varma demanded to clear the debts, Chandu hatched a plot with Swaminayudu and Nagaraju to kidnap and asked him to come to Jhansi Lakshmibai School on Sunday (May 29) night. When Varma reached the venue, the trio pushed him to a car and kidnapped him.
Later, they called Varma’s father Srinivasa Raju and demanded Rs12 Lakhs to free his child. However, Srinivasa Raju pleaded with them that he cannot pay more than Rs 4.25 lakh, to which the trio agreed. They asked Srinivasa Raju to come to Youth Club and collected the ransom.
Later, the trio released Varma at Pedamiram village on Monday. Upon release, the father and son complained about the incident to the police, who launched a man hunt. Police held the trio, who were behaving suspiciously during a vehicle check at a check post on the outskirts of the town on Tuesday.
