Visakhapatnam: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths on Wednesday arrested circle inspector of the IV Town police station K Balakrishna on charges of amassing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.

DSP K Ramakrishna Prasad said as per the initial assessment, the market value of the seized documents from the house of the inspector and from other places suggest that he possessed wealth to the tune of about Rs 20 crore. Some of the documents are in the name of his mother-in-law and family members.

The DSP said raids were simultaneously conducted in eight places, including five in Vizag city that include his house, police station and few other areas, two places in Vizianagaram and his relative house at Kovvuru in West Godavari district.

The ACB sleuths seized documents pertaining to a G+3 building and a commercial complex at PM Palem, a flat measuring 800 sq ft at Sivajipalem, a plot measuring 1,178 sq ft at Palavalasa, one plot at Narava , house site in his mother-in-law name at Yendada in Vizag city, a house-site at Vizianagaram in his father’s name and 10 acres farm-land at Garividi area in Vizianagaram district.

The ACB officials also seized bank deposits and investments in LIC and few others worth Rs 5 lakh, Rs 30, 000 in cash, 250 gms of gold ornaments, 2 kg silver ornaments officer’s residence. The tainted police officer had also taken a gold loan of Rs 5 lakh. The DSP alleged that being a police officer Balakrishna had ignored his official duties and indulged in real-estate business.

Sources in police department said that Balakrishna had joined the service about a decade ago and served in various capacities under the police commissionerate and Visakha Range. Before being posted at SHO, IV Town Police Station, Balakrishna served as traffic police inspector of Madhurawada division. The raids will continue on Thursday as well at a few other places in the region.
