Yet another astrologer was arrested for allegedly cheating people to the tune of several lakhs of rupees on Wednesday. The astrologer, claimed to have helped some of the existing political leaders from Telugu States achieve top positions, allegedly forced women who approached him to develop physical relationship with him.

According to the Vanasthalipuram police, the ‘fake swami’ collected lakhs of rupees from clients, claiming to have powers to change the fates of those who approached him. Individuals who were worried about their health, wealth, family life, children’s education, marital life and depression contacted him for performing ‘homam’ (puja). The accused has been identified as Gudimella Venkata Laxmi Narasimha Charyulu alias Charyulu alias Vishnu, 44, and resident of Balapur and native of Khammam.

He learnt astrology and started office on the name of Bhavishyawani at Meerpet and made vide publicity of his profession as astrologer through promotional programmes on TV channels like Sneha Tv and Pooja Tv.

The accused under the garb of astrologer lured woman through their weakness and spoke to them in seclusion. He warned them that their husbands were facing ‘weak stars’ and there was threat to their lives. He not only collected money amounting between Rs 1 and Rs 5 lakh from gullible people but also trapped women for his sexual desires.

Cases were registered under Vansthalipuram, Saroornagar, Meerpet, Balapur and Vanasthalipuram police stations. In all, the Narasimha collected more than 50 lakhs from gullible women. He is also accused of developing physical relationships with several women in the guise of solving their problems.

“He is having a fake CBI identity card and he threatened the victims by showing a fake weapon and CBI ID card who demanded return of their amount. So far, five cases have been registered against him and many people are approaching us with fresh complaints against him. We will take him to police custody to identify the victims and investigate into the case and recover the property,” said DCP, LB Nagar, M Venkateshwar Rao.

In may be mentioned here that the police on September 25, apprehended another astrologer, Swamiji Madiriki Baburao of Balkampet, for allegedly trying to sell fake diamonds to the gullible public. He also claimed to be an influential man by showing ID cards of Press, Indian American Council and human rights groups.
