Over 590 out of 946 IIIT students who appeared for GATE have qualified in the tough exam

Hyderabad: The notification for admission into six-year integrated course in B Tech at the three IIITs (International Institute of Information Technology) run by the state government was released for the academic year 2014-15. The online registration process would commence from May 21 and the last date will be June 16. Students have to register through the website www.rgukt.in, according to Prof. RV Raj Kumar, the Vice-Chancellor of RGUKT (Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies), the governing body of the three coveted institutes at Basar, Idupulapaya and Nuzvid. The total number of seats is 3000 in all the three i.e. 1000 each in every institute.
Admissions will be for six engineering disciplines - chemical, civil, computer science engineering, mechanical and metallurgical and materials engineering. Admissions will be made on the baasis of GPA of SSC. Students of other boards like CBSE, ICSC or any other.
“Admissions will be made based on the Grade Point Average (GPA) and Grade obtained in each subject by an applicant. A deprivation score of 0.4 GPA prescribed by the Government under Statute 13 (3) of RGUKT Act, will be added to the GPA of SSC applicants from non-residential government schools including Zillaparishad and Municipal High Schools in Andhra Pradesh for selection. The existing rules of reservation of the state government are applicable and seats will be allocated as per Presidential order,” Prof. Raja Kumar said.
“In order to encourage students studying in other states including children of Indian workers in Gulf countries, other countries, NRIs, five per cent supernumerary seats are allocated to them,” he added.
First batch coming out by month-end
RGUKT was established in 2008 and the first batch of students will be coming out by this month-end, completing their six-year integrated course.
“It’s a matter of satisfaction for all of us. Let me also tell you that IIIT students have excelled in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) this year.
At least 592 out of 946 who appeared for GATE have qualified in the tough national tech exam and I m confident, as many as 72 of them will get admission in IITs in MTech and ME. More than 150 will get admission in NITs and the rest in other institutes of national repute,” Raja Kumar disclosed.
According to him, a total of 614 IIIT students have already secured placements in several companies and the campus recruitment is still on. 67 students have been successful in the design contests by NASA, he added.
