J&K Students Likely To Get Special Scholarship. The Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development has been implementing the Special Scholarship Scheme for Jammu and Kashmir since 2011.

New Delhi: The Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development has been implementing the Special Scholarship Scheme for Jammu and Kashmir since 2011.

The Scheme aims to provide tuition fees, hostel fees, cost of books and other incidental charges to students belonging to Jammu and Kashmir who, after passing Class XII or equivalent examination through the State Board of J&K and from Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) affiliated schools located in Jammu and Kashmir, have secured admission in Government colleges/institutes and other select institutes outside J&K.

Five thousand fresh scholarships are available every year, of which 4500 scholarships are for general degree courses, 250 for engineering and 250 for medical studies.

There is a provision of Inter-changeability of slots from General Degree course to Medical and Engineering Streams, subject to savings due to shortfall in the number of students opting for the General Degree Courses within the overall financial ceiling as per the scheme guidelines.

In case the number of applicants exceeds the number of scholarships available, then the awardees are selected on the basis of marks scored by them in the Class-XII or equivalent exam.

In the academic year 2013-14, total number of 6726 application were received and scholarship was approved to 3747 students (General - 1577, Engineering - 1896 and Medical -274) within the overall financial ceiling for the year.
