Hyderabad: SHANTI stands for qualities of Sincerity, Honesty, Analytical, Natural, Technical and Intellectual Teaching. Started with the motto of “Service, study, serve and smile” the Shanti Vidya Niketan High School is established at Rahamath Nagar, Yousufguda, Hyderabad.

Taking us through the journey of the school in conversation with The Young Hans, K Dharma Raju, Correspondent said that the school was established by Mukul Swamy, a visionary in 1983 who aspired that every child should get education. Dharma Raju’s aunt Savitri started with 20 students and two teachers in a small room. Since then Shanti has come a long way in imparting education with focus on every child in the class and has now reached to a strength of 850 students.

Tell us about the school
Shanti Vidya Niketan High School is truly a holistic education institution committed to educate children for life and thus bring a change in the society. It is the only one institution of its kind in this locality in which the management committee members also teach regularly along with the other staff members. It helps the management to concentrate on each and every student as we provide quality of education.

What about the school faculty?
We have qualified teachers not less than B. Ed as it is basic qualification for them. Mere qualification is not enough for them to teach the students. We identify those kids who need special attention. Each class may have five to six students, who need special attention. They are divided between Class Teacher and Buddy Teachers. Even for children with learning disorder there are psychology teachers.

How is the parent-teacher interaction in the school?
The school is open for the parents all the time. The parents can come down to school and have interaction with the principal and also teachers. Between the management and parents teacher is the coordinator. We at Shanti believe and understand that educating a child is a combined effort of the teachers and parents. It would please us immensely of the child reflects on his school days with pride and satisfaction.

What about the extra-curricular activities and sports activities?
We stress on all-round development in the child. We make sure the child learns the necessary skills to develop a well-groomed personality and thereby succeed in this era of globalisation. For overall personality development there are multiple components that need to be honed in a child’s academic potential, social skills, character building and self concept, language development etc. Audio- visual teaching on multimedia P.Cs and with DVD player, around 300 education C.D’s are available in the digital library of the school and K-Yan (digital Class) with the collaboration of IL& FS , Mumbai.

We celebrate Teachers day, Children’s Day, Republic Day and Independence Day. We have indoor games chess, carom, ludo. Weekly, monthly tests and remedial classes will be conducted to get higher marks and grades for high school section students (VII to X). We also conduct specialised art and craft, music, dance, yoga, and martial arts classes. We provide opportunities to teach and every student to show their talent. Week end tests will be conducted to SSC students from August month onwards to get good percentage of marks / grades. Knowledge oriented birthday gifts will be provided to each and every student.

How was the performance of the students in the recent board examinations?
Not less than 80 percent pass percentage and first-class result in SSC public examinations has been achieved since March 1993. According to me, 100 percent result is possible when you have less strength in any organisation.
