Civic officials swing into action after City Light crash

Hyderabad: In the wake of caving in of City Light hotel resulting in loss of 17 lives in the state capital, the civic authorities in several cities across the state swung into action and demolished several dilapidated buildings and started identifying buildings in precarious condition. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) demolished 12 structures in various parts of twin cities. The list included four buildings in North Zone (one in Monda Market and three in Ganesh Nagar, Chintal and Bhagat Singh Nagar of Qutbullapur), two in West Zone (Old Bowenpally, Kukatpally), two in Budvel area of Rajendranagar Circle in South Zone, two in Central Zone ( Mangalhat and Adarshnagar) and two in Uppal in East Zone limits.

"The 12 structures demolished on Tuesday were part of the 307 dilapidated buildings list prepared recently. In all 45 buildings were removed thus far. Action on the remaining 262 buildings would be taken up as and when the deadline for the notice expires. If the owner did not heed suggestions, civic body would be left with no option but to raze the building," Ronald Ross, additional commissioner (Planning), GHMC, said.

The additional commissioner further stated that 128 buildings that were more than fifty years old were freshly identified in joint inspections carried out by town planning and engineering officials in various parts of the city on Tuesday. He pointed out that the identification drive would be completed in 10-15 days.
