YSR Congress Party Honorary President Y S Vijayamma, launched her indefinite hunger strike here on Monday. Addressing a large gathering at the bus stand center, Vijayamma hit out at the ruling Congress hard for not taking care to ensure justice to the people of all the three regions before deciding on bifurcation. She criticized that pure political considerations were behind the move. “They have set their eyes only on the number of seats that they could win if Telangana is given. They have closed their eyes to the problems of the people,” she asserted.

Guntur: YSR Congress Party Honorary President Y S Vijayamma, launched her indefinite hunger strike here on Monday.
She said that late Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy had always showed concern for the welfare of the people even when he was asked about the Telangana State. She said that the late leader had raised nine points including the sharing of water and revenue, status of Hyderabad, safety of Seemandhra people living in Hyderabad and other places in Telangana. “He had briefed all these issues to Sonia Gandhi and later appointed Rosaiah Committee to study these issues. But, this time none of these issues was taken into consideration while announcing the decision on division,” she regretted.
“We expected them (Congress leaders) to work like the head of family when distributing properties among the children. But they did not act so, forcing us to quit our posts and launch agitation,” she said. She also blamed Telugu Desam for its ‘double stand’ on Telangana. She said the TD had alliance with TRS and BJP, which had been fighting for separate Telangana State.
She ridiculed the TD leaders for participating in agitation for Samaikyandhra, after their leader wrote to the Centre in favour of Telangana. She further criticised the TD chief for not speaking about the interests of the Seemandhra people but instead speaking about Rs 4,000 lakh aid for building a new capital.
She said that even the Antony committee did not give clarity on the division proposal. She wanted to know why the Congress had gone back on the Second States Reorganisation Commission proposal that it had agreed to in its 2001 resolution. She reiterated that her party would continue to fight for justice to all regions and protect the interests of the people.
