Humane Society International (HSI) has put a reward of Rs 10,000 on the head of a Hyderabadi who was caught on camera while torturing a dog in the city. The video was later published on video sharing site YouTube. “On Oct 29, 2014, a one-minute video clip was uploaded on YouTube showing a person catching a stray dog by its hind legs and swinging it up in the air for nearly 30 seconds.

The video is clear enough to understand that the man was under the influence of alcohol as he was waiting for a right opportunity to catch hold of the dog and torture it. During the entire incident, the dog cried in pain but instead of discouraging this person, a video was shot. The way the dog was assaulted indicated a deliberate purpose to hurt the dog.

While the exact location of the incident is not known, it is believed to have occurred in Hyderabad. While the video seems a few months old, it started doing the rounds on social media networking sites with compassionate people raising a voice against this behaviour following a local web portal posting this video on June 9,” said a release by the organisation.

NG Jayasimha, managing director, HSI, said, “It is shameful how this aged person waited for an opportune moment to torture an innocent, defenseless animal for no reason. It’s shameful that his sole intent was to torture the dog and entertain himself at the expense of his trauma.

We encourage people to discourage such behaviour against animals and take the ownership to report them to the local police or any official nearby, if not stop it themselves. We are hopeful that this reward will urge anyone with information about this crime to talk to us.”

HSI/India offers rewards in animal cruelty cases across the country with an aim to bring about awareness amongst the citizens of Indian and strengthen the implementation of laws against animal cruelty.
