Hyderabad: C P Radhakrishnan assumed charge of Chairman, Coir Board, Ministry of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India, pursuant to his appointment to the post by the Central Government. Radhakrishnan is one of the top level leaders of BJP in Tamil Nadu and represented Coimbatore constituency in Lok Sabha on two occasions during 1998-99 and 1999-2004. He was also State President of BJP, Tamil Nadu during 2004-2006.

Prior to his posting at the helm of affairs of Coir Board, Radhakrishnan adorned various position in the BJP like Co-ordinator for Party Sub-committee on Textiles, Member of Consultative Committee on Finance, MPLADS Committee and Public Sector Undertaking Committee. He is an Executive Member of BJP at National level besides being the Co-ordinator of All India BJP Industry Cell.

The Coir Board proposes to organise 4thh edition of International Coir Fair from July 15 to 18 at Coimbatore from 15 to 18 July, 2016. The fair will emphasis on Make in India and National Vendor Development Programmes. For the development of Coir sector, the Board gave administrative approvals and release first instalment funds for setting up of 14 new coir clusters, with a total outlay of Rs55 crore out of which Central government grant amount totalling to Rs40 crore, under SFURTI programme.

The Board also gave approvals and release funds for setting up three start ups in Coir sector (Livelihood Business Incubation Centres) under the ASPIRE Scheme of the Ministry of MSME at Thanjavur, Rajamundry and Bhubaneswar. The Board proposed for start ups proposed for Alleppey and Bangalore.
