The police and stations have been placed on alert in the Agency area. ‘We are taking the usual steps to maintain law and order’, District Superintendent of Police Ambar Kishore Jha told The Hans India.

In an interview he conceded that the Maoits had suffered unprecedented loss of lives in the recent encounter on the border with Odisha. He said: ‘Whether there is a bandh call or not we are always fully alert and the police discharge duty with alertness.

In view of the bandh we have issued orders to them to be extra alert. Movements of Maoist are being watched. I have gone round the various police stations in the border areas and gave suitable suggestion to the department personnel’.

Replying to a question on the situation in Chattisagarh, the SP stated that during the last four years it remained peaceful . There were no significant incidents in the recent past.

‘With the government focusing attention, educational institutions and business establishments are unlikely to cooperate with the Maoists during the bandh. As a result they are unlikely to go round rural areas.

However, we are securing latest information on their movements from the intelligence sources’. Jha said in the context of threat to the people's representatives their security has been reviewed and they have been advised not to tour the Agency areas.

‘Steps have been taken to ensure that there is no laxity in the working of their gunmen. Asked about the steps being taken to keep a watch on the Maoists leaders who are mostly from Telannga and to check their movements, the SP stated that ‘we are in regular touch with the SPs of the border areas and have strengthened vigil in interior areas.

The police personnel are alert to meet any situation arising out of the bandh call, Jha asserted.
