Adilabad: The Forest department officials here are getting ready to set up a herbal park with 2,000 varieties in the Mavala area. They are taking special measures to develop the park.
Speaking to The Hans India here on Friday, Adilabad District Forest Officer Rambabu said that the park was being developed keeping the interests of the tourists into consideration by taking advantage of the rare varieties of herbs, which even cure chronic ailments, available in Adilabad, Mancherial, Asifabad and Nirmal districts.
Even rare and valuable saplings which are on the verge of becoming extinct are found in these forests, particularly in the Kawwal area of Jinnaram of Mancherial district.
Tribal communities like Gonds, Naikpodus and Kalamlu living in the forests make use of these herbs for preparing medicines to treat common ailments like, fever, cough, minor injuries, without going to hospitals.
These Adivasis in interior forest areas use herbal juice made of ‘Dirisena’ tree mixed with pepper powder for snake-bite when anti-venom is not available, to save their lives.
Similarly, in the thick forests of Bejjur, in Asifabad district, many valuable herbs are abundantly available, along with rare saplings and animals.
These saplings attract the attention of scientists of North India who come to forests to conduct research. They have identified these forests as a valuable biodiversity region in Telangana, with temperatures varying from 15 to 45 degrees Celsius. These forest areas also receive rainfall of 750 mm.
Similarly, rare herbs like ‘Gurivinda’ and leaves, the yield of which provide relief to people suffering from various skin diseases and joint paints are available in the area near the Godavari banks in Nirmal district.
The paste from the ‘Kachu’ tree if rubbed on wounds, as also power made of leaves of ‘Ameera’ and ‘Nalla Thumma’ will provide relief within a week/three days, a Girijan. Tirupati, told The Hand India.
He said “We make use of these herbs for treating any minor injury”. According to Tirupati, if “Marika Thumma’ juice is consumed two or three times the effects of dog-bites will disappear.
‘Narlingi’ will help cure fever and if ‘Moduga’ is consumed for three days in a row, it will enable women to become pregnant. The ‘Moduga’ trees are abundantly seen in these districts.
The paste made of ‘Ari’ trees and ‘Gachikai’ leaves will help in getting complete relief from white patches (‘nothaputha’) and Hydrocel respectively. Chewing leaves of ‘Senegalu’ will improve a person’s immunity or resistance power.
The fruits and leaves of ‘Chinta Chettu’ help in curing eye problems and disorders. The leaves and roots of ‘Vempalli’ tree are found to be most effective in easing stomach pain. The juice made of ‘Neelagummadi’ will check hair fall. ‘Thangedu’ flowers and seeds mixed with cow milk and consumed for a week will give relief from white discharge in women.
Drinking of juice extracted from ‘Kanuga’ tree roots is the easy way of getting rid of gas trouble. Drinking of ‘Rela’ tree trunk juice after boiling gives cure from ‘kuttu vyadhi’.
Broken bones could be fixed again after consuming ‘Narlingi’ juice mixed with goat milk. Sudhakar of Utnoor said that those afflicted with kidney problems could use the herbs freely available in these forests for getting cure.
