​Karimnagar: The Telangana Tourism Department will organise International Kite Festival at Police Parade Grounds in Karimnagar on January 18 to promote tourism in the district.

The festival will be held from 9 am to 1 pm, in which participants from 30 countries were expected to take part, informed District Collector Sarfaraz Ahmed.

He chaired a meeting with officials to discuss the arrangements for organising the Festival, at the Collectorate conference hall here on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, the District Collector ordered the officials to make all necessary arrangements like temporary toilets and shelters, health camps with medical officers for emergency services along with safe drinking water for successful organisation of the Kite Festival.

‘This is the first time that Karimnagar has been selected to organise Kite festival after Hyderabad, Warangal and Yadadri. Students from various educational institutions are invited to witness the mega event.’

Plans are also afoot to set up stalls selling handicrafts apart from food courts as part of the festival to attract the tourists in a big way, he added.

City Commissioner Shashank, District Revenue Officer Ayesha Masrath Qanam, District Superintendent of Police Rama Rao, R&B Executive Engineer Raghava Chary, Tourism Officer Venkateshwarlu, District Educational Officer Rajeev, District Medical and Health Officer Dr Rajesham and District Olympic Association President Janardhan Reddy were present along with others.
