​Mancherial: Vote plays a vital role in any democracy, said R V Karnan in an awareness programme held at Government High School in Garmilla on Monday. The awareness programme was conducted marking National Voters Day on January 25.

Highlighting the importance of voting, the Collector said that vote plays a key role in democracy and every citizen of the country should be aware of vote.

He made the students to take an oath to exercise their vote and told them that every individual, irrespective of their gender, caste, status attains the right to vote when they reach 18 years of age and should compulsorily cast their vote during elections.

‘We can elect trustful representatives who bring welfare programmes in the society which results in the progress of the society’.

Though the students may not have the right to vote at present, it is their responsibility to educate their parents, relatives in casting their vote properly. All those, who crossed 18 years of age but are not enrolled in the voter list should get their names enrolled in the list, he added.

Local Tahsildar Madhusudan Reddy, mandal educational officer Prabhakar, Principal Lachiram Nayak, election department Tahsildar Krishna, election observer Lakshminarayana, Sagar and others were present in the programme.
