Hanamkonda: The members of Differently Abled Peoples’ Front have demanded unconditional release of Delhi University professor GN Saibaba, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for his alleged connections with Maoists.

The front members have conducted a signature campaign in support of the demand in Hanamkonda on Wednesday. They wanted the NHRC and Amnesty International to respond to their demand and put pressure on the centre ensuring release of the jailed activist.

The front convener N Rajaiah, co-convener L Satyam and B Mahender speaking to presspersons on the occasion lamented that it was an inhuman act that Saibaba, a wheelchair-bound person, sentenced to life term at Nagpur Central Jail where inside conditions were the worse.

The State and Central governments have developed grudge against Saibaba for his campaign against the military offensive in tribal areas and violation of rights of Adivasis.

‘What the governments are going to achieve by throwing a person with 90 per cent physical disability into jail,’ the front leaders posed.

They asked the common public, rights activists and those uphold democratic right to demand for the release of Saibaba. The signatures collected during the campaign would be submitted to National Human Rights Commission, they informed.
