Farmers should decide price of produce: Pocharam
“Farmers should decide the price of their crops,” Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy stated, after laying foundation stone for several development works in Banswada and Jukkal constituencies on Tuesday.

He lauded Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for implementing various welfare schemes to get the farmers out of debt trap and to make them invest on their own. The Minister laid foundation stone for the construction of Nizam Sagar canal modernisation works at an estimated cost of Rs 37.29 crore.
Addressing the farmers, he said the CM has started the construction works of irrigation projects at a cost of Rs 1.50 lakh crore with the aim to provide irrigation water to one crore acres in the State.
Stating that Godavari water will be diverted through Kaleswaram project to irrigate lakhs of acres, he assured the farmers of supplying water to two crops by filling Nizam Sagar through Haldi Vagu from 2018.
Pocharam said that they had sanctioned Rs 115 crore for up-gradation of distributory canal and another Rs 100 crore will be sanctioned to complete modernisation works of all minor canals by 2018.
Apart from irrigation, the government announced Rs 4,000 per acre to farmers for purchasing fertilisers in order to save them from middle man. Funds would be credited in the accounts of farmers for the Kharif crop by May 15.
The schemes and development would be possible only when the farmers in various villages form federation. To strengthen federations economically, the government would allocate Rs 500 crore in the 2018 budget, the Minister said.
Jukkal MLA Hanmanth Shinde, Zilla Parishad Chairman Dafedar Raju, local representatives and officials were present.
