Fatehnagar: The residents of Fatehnagar are facing problems due to the release of industrial wastes from Jeedimetla in the nala. The polluted nala at Goutham Nagar, which connects several colonies here emanates a foul smell caused by the industrial wastes and people are stating that they are being forced to live in such circumstances as the authorities concerned are not taking any action to tackle this menace. People of the area also using the nala as a dump yard, which is adding to the problem and the nala has become even bigger breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Commuters have to face a tough time due to this.

“The nala is polluted with industrial wastes and the garbage is being dumped by the locals in the nala. The nala was cleaned six months ago and nothing has been done so far. As there is no other option people have to live with this stench, which is hazardous to health,” Mohamed Khaja, a resident of Nagarjuna colony, said.

T Ramulu informed that apart from the stench, the nala is a hub for mosquitoes and they swarm into homes giving people sleepless nights. “It is very difficult to sleep as the area also has mosquito menace. Due to the mosquito bites, my child was suffering from viral fever last week. I have requested the Corporator of the area to tackle the issues, however, our pleas fell on deaf ears.”

B Prasad, a resident of Swapna Colony stated that people are also throwing garbage in the nala. “The nala is already flooded with chemicals from industries and top of it people throw garbage into this nala, which is creating more problems for the residents. It is very hard to live in this stench,” he said.

Fatehnagar corporator P Satish Goud said, “We make sure that we clean the nala twice in a year before the rainy season. The nala is stinking because industries of Jeedimetla are releasing chemical wastes into the nala.”

He further added, “No garbage is being dumped into the nala by anyone. Weekly twice I make sure that fogging is done to kill the mosquitoes in the area."
