To mark the floral festival of Telangana (Bathukamma), Tourism Department along with Karampodi restaurant kicked off the ‘Telangana Food Festival and Bathukamma’ festivities recently. Katherine B Hadda, the US Consul General Hyderabad; Arda Ulutas, Consul General, Turkey; Tourism Secretary, Burra Venkatesham, inaugurated the festival.
To mark the floral festival of Telangana (Bathukamma), Tourism Department along with Karampodi restaurant kicked off the ‘Telangana Food Festival and Bathukamma’ festivities recently. Katherine B Hadda, the US Consul General Hyderabad; Arda Ulutas, Consul General, Turkey; Tourism Secretary, Burra Venkatesham, inaugurated the festival.
As a part of the Bathukamma celebrations, the restaurant was decorated with floral pots and flowers are carefully arranged row after row on a brass plate in circular rows and in alternate colours.
Katherine participated in Bathukamma dance along with other ladies. Speaking on the occasion B Venkatesham said, “Bathukamma is the only festival, which is celebrated by women for the wellbeing of women. Men only assist women or watch as spectators. Bathukamma is a colourful festival and has an 800-year-old-history.”
About the special initiatives by the Telangana government for ongoing Bathukamma festivities, Venkatesham said, “This month on 25, 26 and 27 three airways – Spice Jet, Jet Airways and IndiGo will distribute the Bathukamma cards to women passengers. The cards will have all the information about the Bathukamma festivities. These cards have been distributed all over India and I hope this initiative will spread the greatness of Bathukamma all over the country.”
Ajay Kumar, owner, Karampodi, said, “The restaurant is born out of the passionate journey to revive some of the age-old and forgotten homemade cuisines of Telugus. Our menu will remind our roots, traditions, and more.”
Chef D Konda who has curated the menu for the fest said, “We are serving dishes like ‘Masala Fish’, ‘Natukodi Pulusu’, ‘Guddu Mutton Curry’, ‘Chinta Chiguru Mutton Curry’ ‘Gongura Biryani’, ‘Natu Kodi Kura’, ‘Golconda Muttila Kura’, ‘Miryala Kodi Kura’, ‘Ulavacharu Kodi Biryani’, and all veg items along with Payasam, Semia, and Ariselu. The menu will change every day.”
