Hayath Nagar: For the last three years, the Hayathnagar circle of GHMC department had been suffering from shortage of sanitation staff. This had made it difficult for the staff members to deliver quality services to close to two lakhs citizens living in the area.

GHMC Deputy Commissioner Mukund Reddy, Hayath Nagar told The Hans India, “As per GHMC norms, there should be a sanitation worker for every half kilometre. But in Hayath Nagar we are finding it difficult to have one sanitation worker for one kilometre. As a result we are unable to send them to all the colonies on a daily basis, which has resulted in the areas of Hayath Nagar becoming filthy.”

He further added, “Every year there are one to two colonies which keep coming up in the circle, which we cannot stop, but at the same time there should be a check on the civic amenities provided to the residents. We have given a representation to our Commissioner of GHMC a month back and has said that he would be looking into the matter. It has been a month we have not heard anything from them till now.”

Mohan Rao, a retired government employee told The Hans India, “Lack of proper sanitation facilities, mosquitoes and flies have become rampant in the area. We cannot go out post 5pm in the evening.” Keerthi Reddy, a house wife and a local resident of Hayath Nagar told says, “It is horrible during the rainy season, when the whole area starts stinking with the garbage and nala which dumped and keeps flowing in the area.”

We tried to get in touch with the commissioner of GHMC to find out about the status of representation made, but there was no proper response from the office members.
