Chanchalguda: The Telangana prisons department has come up with an initiative to make Hyderabad free from beggars in the last year in Hyderabad.

After Telangana Prisons Department announced Rs 500 gift to each individual to whoever hands over a beggar in the city, eight individuals claimed the price amount after spotting a beggar and handing them over to Department staff. So far, 2,000 beggars were picked up from the roads.

Speaking to The Hans India, A Narsimha, IG, Telangana Prisons Department said, “We have started beggars home on October 28, 2017. On the governmental order, two structures were made ready to confine male beggars in Chanchalguda and female beggars in Charlapalli prison. Within span of three months. 2,000 beggars were picked up from various places and out of it, 1,500 beggars are male and 500 are female.

Most of the beggars were released on their family interventions. They were advised not to repeat the same. If they repeat it for the second time, they will be entitled to go for criminal case. he added. No such cases were registered so far. Reformation and rehabilitation for beggars is going on, he stated.

“These rehabilitated people will be educated under ‘Vidyadanam’ programme under which they would be providing education and employment to them" he said.
Some beggars were also going under training in prisons industries, Ayurvedic and petrol bunks and those who are not skilled would be given training in Anand ashram.
