Secunderabad: Personnel of the Railway Protection Force and Government Railway Police headed by G Ashok Kumar, Superintendent of Police at Secunderabad Railway Station recovered a bag containing valuable gift articles in Gowthami Express and successfully handed it to the rightful owners here on Thursday.

Comprising gold ornaments worth Rs.1,50.000, silver articles costing around Rs.30,000 and nearly Rs.70,000 cash, the bag belonged to a J V Swamy, an ONGC engineer who was returning from Kakinada to Hyderabad after celebrating his younger daughter's wedding.

"We had placed all the ornaments of the bride but since there was so much rush at the venue, we stuffed up the wedding gifts in a bag and headed to Hyderabad before we could take our flight to Shirdi for a family function. In our hurry, we actually forgot about the bag and left it in the train compartment. In fact, I was thinking that the wedding gifts were with my mother. Not until later this morning did I realise that the Railway Police had found it on the train and had contacted us through a number of our relatives.

Call it a coincidence that even our flight got cancelled in the afternoon. We are fortunate to have such a dedicated team of policemen who helped us and are eternally grateful for their efforts." expresses Swamy's wife. The SP of Railway Police also appreciated the Secunderabad Railway staff, especially the hospitality team, that takes care of the bedding, who helped the police to retrieve the wedding presents and bring it all to a happy ending.
