Tolichowki: Fruit hawkers make their way on the roads of Tolichowki and Mehdipatnam with the spell of Ramzan. Unlike every year, this year is a challenging one for roadside vendors because of the strict restrictions imposed by the city police. Despite the restrictions, fruit hawkers managed to install their stores on the roads which is leading to traffic issues in the area.

Store owners won’t allow us and police impose restrictions; where will the Hawkers go? A fruit hawker Mohammed Muzzamil said “Ramzan is the month of earning and the strict restrictions of the police are affecting our business.

We only sell fruits for a few hours usually between 4 pm and 7 pm in the evening; if they cannot allow us then they have to create a space for us to sell. However, today is the first day of Ramzan we wish that police will permit us for a few hours.”

A tobacconist from Tolichowki said “The road between Tolichowki and Mehdipatnam is usually busy and the push cart movers stand here in the evening which is leading to traffic issues. Most of the times the problem is with the customers who park their vehicles on the road to purchase goods and block the way.”

Another fruit hawker Sadik Hussain said “Many places in the city are restricting hawkers, they tow our carts and soil our goods. I’ve come here from Chandrayan Gutta, earlier I use to sell fruits near Charminar, now many hawkers like me are facing trouble In a location without restrictions, but restrictions are everywhere.

How will we earn our bread and butter? How will we serve our families in the month of Ramzan? For days I was touting in the streets and colonies, but we barely earn anything by doing that.

Traffic police constable from Tolichowki said “Push cards on the roads are a trouble, moreover the visitors park their vehicle near the cart and stands for long times which is clogging the traffic during the peak hours.”
