In order to make the city plastic-free and zero-waste wedding, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) commissioner B Janardhan Reddy directed all the deputy commissioners to adopt function hall per week towards “Green Function Hall” or “Ek kadam hariyali ki or”. 

Hyderabad: In order to make the city plastic-free and zero-waste wedding, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) commissioner B Janardhan Reddy directed all the deputy commissioners to adopt function hall per week towards “Green Function Hall” or “Ek kadam hariyali ki or”.

Commissioner asked the GHMC officials to interact with the management of the function halls, caterers to use only reusable materials like steel plates and glasses, jute bags, making green surroundings in and around the premises of the function hall. He also asked the deputy commissioners to personally take necessary steps to coordinate with the management and caterers to cut down plastic menace and to have a pollution-free environment.

Janardhan appealed to the citizens that while performing marriages they should use only steel utensils and minimize the decorations and other activities where plastic materials were used. He also appealed to the corporate, RWAs, NGOs to join hands with the GHMC to take up Corporate Social Responsibility for avoiding plastic. The corporate may help in providing steel glasses and plates in huge numbers which can be utilized at the functions instead of plastic materials. There are approximately 4,000 function halls in GHMC limits.
