A 15-year old male Asiatic Lion named Crazy, which was undergoing treatment for sometime breathed his last at Zoopark, the authorities informed on Sunday. The officials of Nehru Zoological Park informed that the Lion was under treatment from May 19. 

Hyderabad: A 15-year old male Asiatic Lion named Crazy, which was undergoing treatment for sometime breathed his last at Zoopark, the authorities informed on Sunday. The officials of Nehru Zoological Park informed that the Lion was under treatment from May 19.

He was suffering with a wound at forehead, forelimb and blood in urine, haematuria, self-inflicted injuries. He was constantly under the observation since then. He has being given antibiotics, multi vitamin boluses in the feed to improve the health condition. His blood sample, urine sample and faecal sample were sent for laboratory analysis to VBRI, Shanthinagar, Hyderabad for results.

On Thursday, the animal went on lateral recumbence and not responded for any treatment and subsequently died by the evening. The post-mortem was conducted on June 29 in the presence of veterinary experts, Dr M Navin Kumar, Deputy Director(Rtd), Zoo Consultant, Dr D Devendar Rao, Assistant Director(AH),DMS, Dr G Sunitha, Assistant Director(AH), Microbiology, Dr Suhruda, Assistant Director(AH), Pathology from VBRI, Shanthinagar (Hyderabad), Dr B Sambasiva Rao, Senior Scientist, LaCONES, CCMB, Attapur and Dr M A Hakeem, Assistant Director(Vet), Nehru Zoological Park.

As per post mortem lesions indicative of injuries in the buccal cavity in skull and brain, heavily congested emphysematous nodules observed in lungs, fatty infiltration mild congested in liver, firm in consistency cortex has mild congested in kidney, thickness bladder wall neurotic foli on bladder wall foli and with puss matured along with urine and mediashnal cavity. All samples were collected and sent to Veterinary Biological Research Institute, Shanthi nagar, Hyderabad for detailed investigation.

It may be mentioned here that recently another mammal, a 44-year old Female Elephant (Jamuna) died while being treated in the Zoo for some time. The Elephant was suffering with sprain in hind legs for the last three months and was unable to sleep in the night due to the sprain.
