Cyberabad Police Commissioner CV Anand has asked cab drivers to play an active role in ensuring the safety of women while performing their duties. Speaking after launching a ‘Training and Appraising the Drivers Programme’ at the premises of Cognizant Technology Services (CTS) at Gachibowli on Saturday, Anand stressed said by imparting training the drivers could be sensitised on the importance of women’s safety, defensive driving and better customer service.

He said, “With good behaviour and discipline, cab drivers could act as the city’s brand ambassadors, as cab drivers are the first and last persons with whom a tourist interacts.” The Commissioner praised the Telangana State Cabs and Bus Operators Association (TSCBOA) for taking the initiative and said that this programme should be conducted in all the IT companies. He added that alert drivers can help the police in prevention of crime.

TSCBOA President Syed Nizamuddin said that the association, in collaboration with the Cyberabad Police, plans to train about 50,000 drivers on key issues related to safety and security of the passengers. Further, by following all traffic rules, the drivers could make Hyderabad and Telangana State an exemplary city and State across the globe.

Deputy Commissioners of Police Avinash Mohanty (Traffic), Head of Traffic Awareness Sub-Committee VS Prasasd and expert trainers of Cognizant Technology Services addressed the gathering. The CTS trainers gave a powerpoint presentation on defensive driving, basic precautions to be taken to prevent accidents and women’s safety.

The interactive training programme saw participation from nearly 1,000 drivers, who work with different private cab operators. They assured the authorities of their full cooperation and support in ensuring safety and security of not only the passengers, but their surroundings. They also took a pledge on safe driving.

The TSCBOA president informed that similar training programmes would be conducted for all the drivers operating in the city in batches of 700 - 1,000 in different IT companies in Cyberabad.
