Classical music might not be everybody’s cup of tea. But that is only until they have heard Serge Lopez and Nathalie Martin. The duo wowed the audience at Westin Mindspace, Madhapur, on Thursday evening. Serge Lopez on acoustic guitar and Nathalie Martin on piano performed at a poolside where the audience was spread across the lawn, some sitting on chairs and some relaxing on the grass.

The concert was certainly directed to a niche audience. It didn’t matter if one’s knowledge of French or Spanish was paltry; the gig was more about the music than the lyrics. And surely, it was one of those gigs that are capable of soothing your soul. It was difficult to stop humming and swaying as the duo struck chord after chord on their instruments.

The music was flawless and neat except for a few bits which went flat on the piano but were picked well. The gig’s highlight was when Nathalie stepped down the stage and allowed Serge to take over the audience single-handedly with his original compositions. The music was sheer joy and got better as the artiste started off with his package of flamenco. The subtle hues of blue were clubbed with foot tapping.

Nathalie took to the stage again to accompany Serge on piano for the last piece of the evening. Yes, this was the last; most people wished the evening had never ended and that the cycle of French and Spanish music continued to enthrall them. As the concert concluded, every person went over and thanked the duo for the beautiful rendition.
