The Hyderabad Growth Corridor Ltd (HGCL), which is responsible for the construction and upkeep of the Nehru Outer Ring Road, observed the traffic safety week from March 11 to 17 and a horde of activities were marked for the week. The vehicular traffic on ORR is around 30,000 vehicles per day.

The vehicular traffic on ORR is around 30,000 vehicles per day.As part of safety week, pamphlets detailing the rules and guidelines that are to be followed while using the expressway, penalties for different types of traffic violations, etc, were distributed at toll plazas.

Eye check-up camps were conducted in association with Lions Club at two major toll plazas namely Pedda Amberpet and Patancheru on March 11 and 14. The two plazas were chosen as they received a lot of traffic. Truck drivers were checked and necessary medical assistance was given to 241 drivers having poor eye sight.

Arrangements for public announcement through a CD on the Dos and Don’ts on ORR for public awareness were made at toll plazas. During this campaign Cyberabad Traffic Police extended their help in giving a pre-recorded CD on road safety in three different languages. A drive was conducted to ensure that all trucks had reflective tapes affixed on their rear. The toll collection agency extended their support to provide retro reflective tapes free of cost.

RTA Motor Vehicle Inspector Venkat Ramana extended his cooperation in getting this drive done. 25 trucks were provided retro reflective tapes during this drive. During the week, cool drinking water facility was started for ORR users. The main objective of conducting traffic safety week on the ORR was to bring awareness on the importance of road safety. In the last two years the total number of accidents on the ORR has seen a 21 per cent decline and the total number of deaths has seen a decline of 27 per cent.
