Last Thursday, December 10th, Ahmed Khan, attended a reception hosted by Vice President Joe Biden and his wife Dr. Jill Biden at their residence at the US Naval Observatory in Washington D.C. Ahmed, a young American Muslim of Indian (Hyderabad) origin and a life-long resident of Chicago’s Northside, received a special invitation to this private reception after serving as Deputy Executive Director of Draft Biden 2016 this past year.

Based out of Chicago, Draft Biden 2016 was a federal super-PAC formed by campaign veterans to encourage Vice President Joe Biden to enter the 2016 Presidential race and build the initial infrastructure in anticipation of his potential run.

While Vice President Joe Biden decided against a 2016 presidential run, Ahmed Khan and his Draft Biden 2016 team’s efforts afforded Vice President Joe Biden the national spotlight amidst rumors of a potential presidential campaign. Draft Biden 2016 generated a base of 250,000 supporters across the nation including volunteer chapters in all 50 states, organized a national finance team which included former top fundraisers for President Barack Obama, coordinated full time paid staff in the early primary/caucus states of Iowa, South Carolina, New Hampshire, and Nevada, procured endorsements from influential Democratic and grass-tops stakeholders, and coordinated a media strategy that held the strong interest of mainstream media across the nation in anticipation of the Vice President’s potential run.
On his attending Vice President Joe Biden’s reception, Ahmed Khan said, “Meeting the Vice President in person and hearing him commend our work was an honor. It was a privilege to have served our Vice President in this capacity and ensure that his experienced voice was considered in the national presidential election discussion. While he decided against a run, our efforts were well received as we steered the national political discourse for months and helped strengthen the Democratic Party to ensure that we see a Democrat in the White House in 2016.”
Khan further added, “It is crucial for American Muslims to continue to be civically engaged and take part in the democratic process. We are as American as any other person and accept our responsibilities towards the well-being of our country. That responsibly coupled with our faith, which calls us to work towards peace and justice, motivates us to work together with like-minded communities for the common good of this country.”
