Kothagudem: Kothagudem MLA Jalagam Venkat Rao on Sunday said the status of mining college here would be upgraded to that of a science and technology university as the varsity study committee has taken a decision to this effect. He was participating in a meeting with the university study committee held in Hyderabad on Saturday. Telangana State Council for Higher Education chairman Papi Reddy and university study committee chairman TS Prasad held a joint meeting with committee members and officials of the industries department. The MLA told the committee that Kothagudem developed as a progressive industrial belt and went on to become Bhadradri Kothagudem district.

He urged the committee members to introduce industry-friendly courses keeping in mind the students’ future and to upgrade the status of mining college to that of a university. The MLA added that the committee members dwelt on funds, amenities, staff requirements, all aspects of industrial development and would submit report to the government on the decisions taken. The MLA said he was trying to get the university tag from the Chief Minister by November-end fulfilling all formalities.
